How to Raise Your Vibration the Simple Way
At this point in your life journey, I am fairly certain you have felt some profoundly euphoric highs, along with some soul-shattering lows. The human experience is sometimes akin to a roller coaster ride with plenty of volatile ups and downs, regularly forcing us to hold on for dear life before encountering an exhilarating turn just over the horizon. Even in our most harmonious seasons, we get thrown off emotionally, causing a steep plummet from the peak of our joyride.
One of the many benefits of walking a spiritual path is the potential to develop our emotional intelligence. A lot of challenges we face on our journey end up becoming valuable opportunities that not only nurture our depth of character but develop our self-awareness as well. And with this, a heightened ability to recognize emotional patterns in real-time, giving us ownership over them if we choose. As the renowned spiritual writer Wayne Dyer puts it, "I cannot always control what goes on outside. But I can control what goes on inside."
So, what does this really mean? What am I even getting at that you haven't already heard? You probably need some more self-help tropes and spiritual sayings to ponder, huh?
The point is this: understanding your emotions is empowering.
And with that belief acting as the operative theme, let's see if it is it possible to answer the question, "how can you raise your vibrational frequency by simply understanding your emotions?"
In 1995, a brilliant psychiatrist and spiritual lecturer named David R. Hawkins published the book Power vs. Force. In it, he shared some ground-breaking discoveries on human energy and an incredibly helpful tool known as the "Map of Consciousness."
What initially made this theory so impactful was the unique way it promoted an understanding of how to identify and quantify energetic frequency through the language of human emotion. While this knowledge was quite innovative at the time of its inception, its potential to serve as a reliable tool to quickly raise one's frequency in a desired way is immensely valuable still to this day. Let me explain...
The beauty of Hawkins's "Map of Consciousness" lies in its simplicity. It can be interpreted that the goal is not to instantly surge your energetic level to the very top of the frequency scale but rather to easily identify and embrace where you are at, allowing yourself the space and confidence to move up a peg or two as needed. Sometimes, awareness is all that is necessary to make a shift.
Can you remember a time you felt utterly overwhelmed simply looking for solutions to shake a rut you found yourself stuck in?
One of the unfortunate aspects of living in the information age is the confusion that often occurs when we come across an endless source of opinions and contradictory teachings. While many perspectives have their merits, a more savvy approach when seeking help may come in the form of asking, "What is the right advice for me, based on where I am at on the frequency scale?" Having an advanced understanding of your current emotional frequency, or better yet, the emotional baseline you frequently inhabit, puts you back in a place of power to more accurately discern how to support yourself. By recognizing your emotional state, you better equip yourself to make conscious decisions that are more appropriate for the paradigm you are operating in.
For the individual stuck in a state of apathy, i.e. feeling unmotivated to move forward in any meaningful way (a life view of "what's the point?"), it would actually be a step in the right direction for them to feel sad about their situation. Believe it or not, they would be moving UP in their energetic state. If they continued to move through that sadness, landing on a state of fear about the future (a life view of "things will keep getting worse at this rate"), then the momentum would compound (ascending from a vibrational frequency of roughly 50 to 100). From that point, they might determine what they truly want for themselves ("I wish I could just have it this way") and then become pissed off at how unfair their situation has been and how much time they have wasted.
From a societal standpoint, these emotions are considered predominately "negative" or even damaging to your psyche. But is that true? Or simply a surface level viewpoint? That is, in essence, the question Hawkins sheds light on in his work. In the above example, the process of working through these emotions would not only be healthy but entirely expected in an attempt to pull yourself out of a low place (vibrationally speaking). It would remove you from the "survival paradigm" and place you closer to a drastically more balanced baseline—opening pathways to preferred outcomes and physical sensations.
After all, would it not make sense that we are much more powerful beings when we embody the higher frequencies that align with the energy of life itself?
What I am sharing is nothing new, but serves as a helpful reminder that it doesn't take much to raise your vibration if you know how to assess it properly. Of course, we are only scratching the surface here, and I encourage you to dig deeper if you feel compelled to explore this concept further.
Whether we are experiencing long-lasting periods of joy, are frustrated and distraught about our circumstances, or are trusting that things are just as they should be, never forget that you have the power to bring awareness to that state and decide what comes next for your life. By staying open to evolving and accepting all parts of yourself, no matter how different they seem, a paradoxical power is attained. One that allows you to raise your frequency through the profound act of surrendering to your emotions.
